StumbleUpon is seeking an experienced Release Engineer/Toolsmith to support our growing engineering team. Ideal candidates will have proven experience setting up build environments and automating the build and deployment process. Working closely with QA and our development teams, the Release Engineer/Toolsmith will create processes and cycles that successfully push releases from development to staging to production. Responsibilities:

* Write plugins and tools to integrate source control, build, and release systems
* Automate quality assurance tasks
* Develop a next-generation continuous integration build system
* Create tools for backend/operational platforms
* Serve as the backbone of the growing engineering team at StumbleUpon

Qualifications:

* Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
* 3-5+ years experience in at least one major scripting language: Ruby, Python, Perl, PHP a huge plus
* Extensive experience with at least one major version control system (VCS): Subversion, Git, Hg/Darcs/Bzr Perforce
* Intimate knowledge of Linux as a primary development platform
* Excellent understanding of release engineering concepts: build, release, branch, merging, deltas
* Previous professional experience in a 5-10+ person development team
* Exposure/familiarity to Agile/team development processes
* Superb verbal and written communication skills

Bonus qualifications:

* Development experience with at least one issue tracking framework: JIRA, TRAC, Bugzilla
* Distributed systems knowledge: MapReduce, Hadoop, HDFS, Bigtable, HBase
* Monitoring and alerting experience: Nagios, Munin, Cacti
* Ability to explain the advantage of deltas being first class objects in a VCS
* Has written one of the following for profit: a framework, a buffer overflow, a novel
* Active Stumbler!
