Job Description:

The Generations Network, parent company of Ancestry.com, is looking for an (Senior) Director of Product Management for the Trees & Publishing team. This team is responsible for enabling our members to capture the richness of their family history and preserve it online for all time. When most of our members think of researching their family history they think of creating their “family tree”. Ancestry provides a robust online family tree-building tool as well as other means to capture and organize historical records, photos, stories and other media related to a member’s family history. These tools are where many users spend the bulk of their time on Ancestry. This team is also responsible for creating tools to help members share their family history with friends, family and the web at-large.


The (Senior) Director of Product Management will drive the definition and implementation of Ancestry’s product strategy for this area. He/She will drive the development of product plans derived from consumer research, strategic requirements, and user needs. This person will build and lead a team of highly motivated product managers, and will coordinate the efforts of a development team to deliver features in support of the overall product vision. The Director of Product Management will serve as the focal point for communication with internal partners - from Engineering to Business Development to Marketing - making key strategic and day-to-day product and marketing decisions.


The (Senior) Director of Product Management could be based either in the San Francisco office, located at Pier 38 by the ballpark or in our Utah office located 5 miles from Sundance.


Key Responsibilities / Performance Requirements:

Define and evangelize the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for your products
Govern the entire product lifecycle of your product portfolio from requirements definition to product delivery.
Lead, manage, and motivate a team of smart, driven, entrepreneurial product managers.
Interface with teams across the company including Product Development and Marketing to ensure successful delivery and launch of products.
Structure and manage relationships with third party content and technology partners.
Required Skills:

Eight + years experience in product management required, with at least two years at a Consumer Internet (B2C) ecommerce company; with at least two years of autonomous product/product line management responsibility
Strong business acumen. Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills towards development of product strategy and solutions to day-to-day issues.
Exceptional communicator with the ability to lead and inspire cross-functional groups.
Good people management skills; must have managed a team of product managers; track record of hiring and developing talent
Proven track record of shipping world-class, market-leading products
Strong technical understanding of Internet technologies and the operations of a commercial Web site
B.S. or B.A Required, MBA preferred
Passion for using technology to serve the needs of families a decided plus.
